Greetings from the President of the 28th World Congress of Internal Medicine

On behalf of the Taiwan Society of Internal Medicine, I would like to extend my heartiest welcome to all the participants to be held of 28th World Congress of Internal Medicine (WCIM) at the Taipei International Convention Center in Taiwan.
This is the first time that this Congress, organized by the International Society of Internal Medicine (ISIM) will be held in Taiwan. The purpose of the ISIM is to promote scientific knowledge and unity in internal medicine, further the education of young internists, and encourage friendship between physicians in all countries. For the Congress, we have chosen the theme "Internal Medicine in the IT (Information Technology) Era", which encompasses a wide variety of topics, including medical research, education, clinical service, geriatric medicine, medical ethics, neurology, critical care and emergency medicine . Hence, regardless of your subspecialty, there will be something of scientific interest in the Congress for you.

Taiwan is known for its lush mountains, soaring forests, natural settings, and cultural essences, all of which comprise its magnificent beauty. Because of these, early Portuguese sailors have given it the name "Ilha Formosa", or "Beautiful Island". Taiwan is conveniently situated at the crossroads of Northeast and Southeast Asia, one of the busiest air routes in the world. Taipei, its capital, is a city of contrasts, with an intriguing blend of tradition and modernity. In November, autumn weather is pleasant and comfortable in Taiwan, bidding everyone to enjoy Taiwanese hospitality, culture and cuisine. Taiwan is just the place for all of you.

Join the gathering of the world's top internists. See you in Taipei at the WCIM 2006!

Sincerely yours,

Yuan-Teh Lee, M.D., Ph.D.
